July 26th 2021 - Manuscript accepted in Frontiers Tropical Diseases! Led by the Smartt Lab, this work highlights novel genes associated with DENV infection in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

July 24th 2021 - Manuscript accepted in Pathogens! Happy to contribute to this undergrad-driven paper led the Lee Lab where we examined research and control priorities amongst Florida Mosquito Control Districts.

July 16th 2021 - Time passes quickly. Today was the final day of Kyle's 10-week summer project. It's always sad when someone leaves the lab, but it's been great watching how much Kyle learned in such a short time.

July 6th 2021 - Daniel PĂ©rez-Ramos, has joined the lab and will be our first graduate student! Daniel will spend a month as a technician in the lab before starting his PhD in mid-August. Welcome Daniel!

June 29th 2021 - Manuscript accepted in Trends in Parasitology! https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34303627/ Along with Heverton Dutra, Luciano Moreira & others, I review the translational side of Wolbachia research with a focus on arbovirus control.

May 10th 2021 - UF undergrad Kyle Payne has joined the lab for a summer research project where he will investigate the bacteria of estuarine mosquitoes. Welcome Kyle!

April 16th 2021 - In exciting news Marti Ramos has joined the lab as a technician and the very first member of the lab. In addition to keeping the lab super organized, and helping to mentor students, Marti will also have her own research projects. Welcome Marti!

March 18th 2021 - Manuscript accepted in Microbial Ecology: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33860847/. This study from my time in the Dimopoulos Lab compares the microbiome of mosquitoes and water collected from different types of larval habitat.

October 9th 2020 - The lab has obtained some internal funds to study the microbiome of mosquitoes in the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area in Vero Beach.

September 15th 2020 - Eric participated in a virtual Q&A session about mosquitoes with fourth grade students from DELC Blue Academy in Indianapolis.

August 17th 2020 - I am very happy to announce that, as of August 2020, the Caragata lab has opened its doors! We are based in Vero Beach, FL working out of the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory (FMEL), which is part of the Department of Entomology and Nematology and the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Florida. The FMEL is an exceptional, highly collaborative research environment that specializes in studies of mosquitoes and mosquito-borne pathogens.
