Eric Caragata - Primary Investigator
Eric was born in Canada, grew up in New Zealand and then went to College in Australia. He obtained his PhD on metabolism in Wolbachia-infected insects in 2013 from the University of Queensland, and then pursued postdoctoral training in Brazil and in Baltimore working on Wolbachia and mosquito-microbe interactions. Outside of the lab, Eric is an ardent supporter of the Brisbane Lions Australian Football Club.
Marti Ramos - Technician
Martina "Marti" Ramos joined the lab in April of 2021 as a lab tech. She previously worked with Drosophila meloganster at Vanderbilt University, studying the mechanisms of DNA replication and replication timing. Marti graduated in 2015 from Middle Tennessee State University with a B.S. in Biology, concentrated in Biotechnology and Genetics.
Daniel Pérez-Ramos - PhD Student
Daniel started his PhD in the lab in August 2021. In 2015, he earned his BS in Natural Sciences with concentration in Human Biology and a minor in Biotechnology at the University of Puerto Rico, Bayamón Campus. In 2018, he earned his MS in Biology with concentration in Molecular Biotechnology at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, Bayamón campus, where his thesis research was focused on the mosquito vectors of malaria, Anopheles spp. He previously worked at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health studying the interaction of monoclonal antibodies against the malaria parasites circumsporozoite protein.
Kyle Payne - Undergraduate student
Kyle is a UF undergraduate microbiology major who joined the lab in 2021 for a summer research project examining the microbiota of estuarine mosquitoes
