For Students

The lab is strongly focused on providing positive research, career, and quality of life outcomes for students and trainees, and recognises that these outcomes can differ between trainees.

New lab members will be provided with individual mentorship plans, and support tailored to get you where you want to be when you (eventually) leave the lab. Students and trainees will be expected to contribute to the lab's research and extension programs, but will have a voice in the design of these activities.

Students and trainees will be offered opportunities for professional development, and the chance to develop or learn the skills required to write high quality scientific articles and research grants, to contribute to teaching, to contribute to mentorship, and to participate in scientific conferences and meetings.

We are looking for students and trainees who are intelligent, considerate, enthusiastic about science and learning, and who are good communicators. As we are a new laboratory, any students, trainees or postdocs who can bring their own funding will be greatly valued. Students and trainees must be able (and willing) to work individually and collaboratively, as different projects will require different skills expertise. A background and active interest in science is critical. Experience in some combination of Entomology, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Genomics or Metabolism is valued. Experience with insect and/or mosquito rearing is a bonus but not a necessity.

The lab is looking to gain funding to support future students, but please contact me (e.caragata@ufl.edu) if you are interested in our research, potential supervision for your future graduate studies, or if you would like to be put in touch with current or past trainees.
